HANS & FRITZ CONTEMPORARY is proud to present at CODE 3 in Copenhagen the project Re- inventing Domesticity and the Decomposing of the Self, by the danish/filipino artist LILIBETH CUENCA RASMUSSEN.
The average citizen lives in a compromised space. Everyday life is a race. Every breath and movement is calculated into efficiency. The art world is no stranger to this situation. On average, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen spends merely fifty percent of her time at home. The remaining time is spent traveling in relation to her work. Many in the art world live this way, pursuing an almost nomadic life.
Referring to this contemporary lifestyle, the artist draws upon her work involving the body – in its presence and in its absence through representation or as a trace. Through objects, organic material, and performance, Re- inventing Domesticity and the Decomposing of the Self reflects on our transition from life to death. Organic materials accompany rituals in the representation and re-performance of making art and the artists in the studio. The exhibit uses these facets in representing the body, its narrative and life through performative gestures.

HANS & FRITZ CONTEMPORARY is proud to present at PAREIDOLIE in Marseille the project D’Ici á Ici, by the Berlin based, Catalan artist, Tere Recarens.
“This carpet is the fruit of four years of work and 2,570 years of history. It’s called The Spring of Khosro and it’s almost a legend. It disappeared centuries ago and only strange descriptions remain. A product of Persia before the Arab conquest, the carpet was so beautiful that the Arabs were afraid they’d fall in love with Persian culture, so they cut it up like spoils of war,” explains the artist, who has created her tapestry with Arabic glue, pigments and invisible ink, over cardboard. During her time in Iran, Recarens studied Farsi and investigated techniques for making carpets, known as paisley. “It’s a very old pattern,” says the artist, who usually develops her works starting with a process of documentation of her own experiences, making it practically impossible to distinguish the border between life and art. Also on display is the series of drawings From Mashad to Mashad, where she captures the transformation of a negative occurence, like the technical failure of a plane, into something positive. Her vicissitudes and those of the passengers around her are the protagonists in the drawings, which were made during this complicated flight, only one of many that she has taken to Mali, Mongolia, Turkey, and the US, among other countries.

HANS & FRITZ CONTEMPORARY – BARCELONA is pleased to present a performance evening with two happennings arranged by the artist SATOSHI HASHIMOTO for his solo exhibition NIGHT-TIME = DARKNESS.
Hashimoto is currently one of Japan’s most ‘alarming’ artists, producing works of art in the form of performances, actions, and instructions aimed at inducing the viewers’ into questioning their role in experiencing art.In the experience of art appreciation, we have acquired the habit of playing the role of an art viewer, which is allocated as one part of the structure of artist/artwork/viewer.
Hashimoto’s works act like anti-props, seemingly meaningless actions which only reveal themselves fully when one engages with them. The works demand of the viewer a commitment — to time, to play, to incarceration and surrender. The actions offer a way out of an “art of the everyday” by moving into a decidedly Bataillian territory of content without meaning that refuses to accept the “everyday” as a neutral, un-problematic experience.

Providing artists a space to experiment and showing what other galleries might not want or dare to, are top priorities to Marc Trensig. As a director of the gallery space Hans & Fritz Contemporary, located in Barcelona and Copenhagen, he dares to break with traditions and take chances by detracting the white cube format and opening up the gallery to the actual production process. His goal is to build an eye-opening, organic program that fosters knowledge and dialogue to a global audience, while constantly pushing the limits for his artists and himself. For Marc Trensig, being a dealer is not really a job. It is a calling.
