29.09.2016 – 10.12.2016

ARTIST: LILIBETH CUENCA RASMUSSEN (DK/PH)

BEING HUMAN BEING is not really an exhibition, nor a performance. It’s something in between…

What we explore is an open studio programme of live art in which we witness the artistic research and the formation of new artworks. The exhibition is about the the concept of the original human and the seven days of creation. Examining the way we search for, see and display the origin of our existence and how this influences the way we understand ourselves today. A reflection on the state of coming from different cultures and belonging in several places.

Body prints of earth made by Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen in collaboration with visitors and specially invited guests: Ana Álvarez-Errecalde, Erich Weiss, Denys Blacker, Camila Cañeque and members of the Philippine community. Paintings, banners, objects and sculptural interpretations are the outcomes of the performance series exhibited in BEING HUMAN BEING.

What is the original man? What is the story about the original person? And where do we actually come from?

Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussens’ exhibition is about the concept of the “original” human. Examining the way we search for, see and display our existence’s origin and how this influences the way we understand ourselves today.

The exhibition is based on geology studies of the Earth’s structure and evolution, as we (perhaps) can find some of the answers to the evolution of life. Even though geology is the natural starting point to the question on the original, geology cannot provide definitive answers to all questions and will therefore only serve as a basis for the artistic interpretations of origin and function; of the purpose of being.

Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, is a Danish artist born in the Philippines who has participated in numerous exhibitions worldwide, including: Performa, New York City, The Thessaloniki Biennial of Contemporary Art, The Tate Modern in London and the exhibition Speech Matters, The Danish Pavilion, at the 54th Venice Biennale.
